Thomas Bjørnholm

Chairman

Thomas Bjørnholm holds a PhD and is Professor of Materials Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen. He serves as Chief Scientific Officer at the Villum Foundation, where he is responsible for the foundation’s support for research in the technical and natural sciences.

He previously served as Prorector for Research and Innovation at the University of Copenhagen, with overall responsibility across all academic disciplines. He is also the co-founder and former Director of the Nano-Science Center at the Faculty of Science.

Throughout his research career, Thomas Bjørnholm has published extensively and received several research awards, including the Ole Rømer Foundation Prize, the Ellen & Niels Bjerrum Chemistry Prize, and the Director Ib Henriksen Research Prize.

He has held positions on numerous boards and committees. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Presidium of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters. He is also a former board member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV) and the Bikuben Foundation.

Thomas Bjørnholm is appointed for the period 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029.
